The Story...

Every family has secrets. Some are buried beneath years of silence. Others quietly shape generations.

McKenzie “Mac” Weber has built her life around keeping up appearances—a marriage she is determined to preserve, a teenage son she wants to protect, and a writing career stalled by her reluctance to reveal anything too personal.

But when marital betrayal fractures the life she has carefully constructed and buried memories of childhood sexual abuse begin to surface, McKenzie is forced to confront not only the men who wounded her, but generations of family silence that allowed those wounds to remain hidden.

As her reawakened Christian faith gives her the courage to face the truth, McKenzie begins writing the story she was once afraid to tell—and discovers that breaking the cycle for her son may require transforming her painful truth into testimony and purpose.

BITTER is a Faith Based Family Drama about truth, accountability, forgiveness, healing, and one woman’s decision to ensure that her family’s silence does not become the next generation’s inheritance.

The Heart of Bitter

Truth

Healing begins when what has been hidden is finally brought into the light.

Accountability

Forgiveness does not erase consequences, restore access, or require reconciliation.

Purpose

When pain is transformed into testimony, it can become a source of hope and healing for others.

TRUTH → ACCOUNTABILITY → FORGIVENESS → SURRENDER → HEALING → PURPOSE → TESTIMONY

Why this story?

Some wounds are visible. Others are carried quietly for generations.

BITTER explores the hidden wounds people carry, the generational patterns that quietly shape families, and the courage it takes to confront painful truths rather than pass them forward.

At its heart, BITTER is about what happens when one woman decides that silence will no longer define her family.

As a writer, creator, and producer, my desire is to tell emotionally authentic stories that reveal hope without compromising truth. BITTER is the first expression of that calling. I believe God entrusted this story to me because it speaks to places many people carry in silence.

My prayer is that audiences leave not only moved by McKenzie’s journey, but encouraged by the possibility of healing—the kind that begins with truth, requires courage and accountability, and allows faith to transform pain into purpose.

Why now?

  • Generational trauma is increasingly part of the conversation—but breaking generational cycles requires more than identifying what happened.

  • It requires truth.

  • It requires accountability.

  • It requires the courage to establish boundaries, even with people we love.

  • And for McKenzie, it requires faith.

  • BITTER explores the difficult space where faith and trauma intersect without suggesting that faith erases pain or that forgiveness eliminates consequences.

  • Instead, the story asks a more challenging question:

  • What happens when one person decides the cycle ends with them?

Marketing Position

Character-Driven Black Family Drama Meets Faith-Centered Transformational Storytelling

BITTER occupies a distinctive space between emotionally challenging family drama and faith-centered storytelling. Its audience and emotional touchpoints can be found in films such as War Room, I Can Only Imagine, Precious, and The Color Purple—stories that have connected with audiences through faith, family, childhood wounds, Black women's experiences, resilience, forgiveness, and the transformation of pain. But BITTER brings its own perspective to that space:

A distinctly Christian story about a Black mother confronting generational trauma, breaking family silence, and discovering that forgiveness and accountability can coexist.

Meet the Creator

Kim James

Writer | Creator

Everything I create begins with my relationship with Jesus Christ.

My faith is not simply a theme within my work; it is the foundation from which every story is written and every creative decision is made.

I believe storytelling can reach places ordinary conversation sometimes cannot. It can expose what has been hidden, give language to experiences people struggle to articulate, and remind us that our most painful chapters do not have to become the end of our story.

BITTER grew from that conviction.

It is a story about hidden wounds, generational silence, faith, accountability, and the courage to pursue healing.

As a writer and creator, my desire is to create emotionally honest stories that confront difficult truths while still leaving room for faith, hope, transformation, and purpose.

My mission is simple: to glorify God through stories that reveal hope without compromising truth.
